We're having a party for Colin. Please let us know which date works best for you!
As some of you might already know, Colin Walkey is finally hanging up his rackets. Ill-health means he’s unable to continue to play the sport he loves and has played for many, many years.
Some of us have known Colin for more than 30 years. Others have become good friends with him much more recently, and really valued the support he’s given us. But we all want a chance to say thank you to Colin for his long contribution to the club and to squash.
We’d like to throw a bit of a party at the club for him.
We have three dates in mind - Wednesday, 23rd July, Wednesday, 30th July or Friday, 1st August - so please let us know which of these is best for you. We’re also going to create a new squash award in his name - the Colin Walkey ‘Unsung Hero’ Trophy - or the Colin Cup for brevity.
In true Colin spirit, he would love to see some recognition given, not to the best player in the club, but to someone who brings a lot to the game in other ways. They might well be in the lower leagues, they might not win often (or even at all) but they approach squash with enthusiasm and enjoyment. They love the game. And importantly (as they will be nominated and voted on by the rest of us), they’ll be someone that other people really enjoy playing against.
Colin will present the Colin Cup to the first lucky recipient on the night of the party. After that, it’ll be presented every year at the finals night of the Spring Competition, starting from 2026.
