Dear Squash and Racketball members, Although it has still felt quite like Summer this last week, it is time once again to kick-off the Autumn team tournament. Our Captain advises me that the date for the finals night and dinner has been set as Saturday, November 29 so put this date in your calendars now. The format will be the same as in previous years - 8 teams of 4 people divided into two leagues. Each team will consist of 3 squash players and 1 racketball player. Players will be handicapped based on league positions using the same system we used last year. Matches will all be 3 games, point-a-rally scoring up to 15. A copy of the rules will be posted on the board at the club. As in past years, I have block booked the 6:30 - 8:30 courts on Thursday evenings for the matches to be played. If too many people are away during the half term week, then we will defer the League 2 second round matches from Oct 30 to Tuesday Nov 4. The first step is for eight of you worthy citizens to volunteer to be team captains! No previous experience is necessary - the only skill required is persuading 3 other people to make up your team and getting them all to turn out to play their matches on the appointed date. I already have Steve Rawden, Kirk Alexander and Lucy Emsden signed up, so just five more of you needed! The provisional timetable is as follows: - Announcement e-mail - Sept 13 - Team Captains to be confirmed - Sept 18 - Team members be recruited (completed by) - Sept 26 - Handicaps and draw for leagues to be completed – Oct 2 - League 1 matches, first round - Oct 9 - League 2 matches, first round - Oct 16 - League 1 matches, second round - Oct 23 - League 2 matches, second round - Oct 30 - League 1 matches, third round - Nov 6 - League 2 matches, third round - Nov 13 - Semi-finals - Nov 20 - Finals and Dinner - Nov 29 Footnote for Racketball league players who also play squash: As we struggled to find enough racketball players for this competition last year, could you please decline any invitations to play squash for a team until such time as we have all the racketball places filled.
