Last Tuesday I attended the Warwickshire squash and racketball league AGM. A number of issues of interest were raised pertaining to the coming 2016/17 season, which I shall bullet point below. Firstly, with the death of Steve Hubbard, Mr. Warwickshire league, forty years of voluntary service will be greatly missed. In effect due to the difficulty in recruiting volunteers to run Warwickshire leagues, there will be considerable streamlining of duties and responsibilities. A new set of rules will shortly be published on the league website, and whereas Steve Hubbard frequently made concessions and special arrangements on his own authority, this will no longer be the case. The league rules will be applied to the letter with no exceptions allowed. Below are some of the points of interest and concern to team captains and team players:- * All league games to be played on a Monday night, no exceptions! * No league matches are to be rearranged to a different date other than the published fixture date, unless force majeur, ie courts flooded and unplayable or roof collapsed. Any team unable to raise a team will forfeit the match and points. * The home team must post results to the league within three days of the match, or be penalized, the away side has a further three days to verify the result. * Nomination list must be in place before the first match is played and will be strictly observed, no player will be allowed to play down, ie from say 1st. team to 2nd. team, listed players will be able to play up, hence important to get ranking order spot on. * There will be minimal central control, it will be very much up to each club and individual team captain to ensure that all the necessary arrangements are in place for each fixture, and that they use the contact information on the web site to liaise with opponents, hence the need to ensure that the relevant information on the website is up to date and correct. Every Friday an automated email will be generated to inform who the opponents are for the coming Monday fixture. When the rules for 2016/17 are available on the website I would advise team captains to read and familiarize themselves with the rules as published. Tibor Szolnoki WBC squash captain
