Squash & Racketball - Update & Recap
Dear Squash & Racketball Members,
Following the reintroduction of limited play on 25th July 2020 and our last communication on 15th July, we write to update you on further ‘play’ endorsed by England Squash and to remind everyone about certain key aspects that all members are to observe.
What is permitted:-
Solo practise.
Games between members of a household members or support bubble
“Sides” – between two players from difference households (not in a support bubble) to play on court at the same time:-
Only two players permitted
-
The aim is to hit a winner or force an error from your opponent as in regular squash/racketball.
-
Only one player serves / touches the ball with their hand during the match.
-
Both players must keep to their side of the court throughout each rally, using the full length of the court whilst maintaining safe social distancing throughout.
-
If a player crosses into the other side of the court, they immediately forfeit the rally.
-
If there is a danger of players breaching a safe social distance, they much call a let and replay the rally.
-
Once the rally is complete, players switch sides of the court (maintaining social distancing) and the server restarts play.
“Coach-led activities”. Up to 5 players from difference households can be coached in the same session so long as social distancing requirements are maintained at all times, including when on court.
For more “advanced players”, ‘front and back’ routines are permitted where social distancing can be maintained. i.e. Boast & Drive. Further information on this can be found at www.englandsquash.com – “Ways to play” with some demonstration videos to assist.
When can I play:-
The courts are available to book as usual on MyCourts (subject to you having credit on your account). You will see that we have staggered the court booking times by 20 mins to avoid two sets of players turning up / leaving at the same time.
The Updated Rules:-
-
Turn up ready to play; play and leave (unless you are having a drink in the bar area afterwards – see details below).
-
If someone is playing on the court you have booked, make your presence known. The balcony has been re-opened and thus members may wait there until their court becomes available ensuring the social distancing is observed. Please note however that spectating is still not permitted.
-
The ventilation fans have been switched on and will remain so. It is the intention to install a time switch so that this comes on at 7am and turns off at 10pm
-
Feel free to prop open the external door with the floor matt to further enhance ventilation. Likewise, the window on the balcony can also be opened.
-
Sanitiser dispensers have been located by the external door into the squash courts with two more to be located by the entrance to each court.
-
Antispectic wipes will also be placed in the vestibule area between the courts. Please use these to wipe the handle on both sides of the court door when you have finished play. A bin is located within the vestibule area where these can be disposed on Santiser are also being in and in-between the squash courts. Please ensure you use them on the way in and on the way out of the block and courts.
-
Do not use or remove any of the items/equipment from the large plastic buckets.
-
Please ensure that you take your racket bag and any ‘kit’ on to the court with you (i.e. not left in the vestibule, balcony or elsewhere) and leave at the centre/front of the court
-
Bring your own water bottle. The water machine is currently out of action, a service is being arranged.
-
Please bring a hand towel; it would be of great help if we could all refrain from wiping our hands on the walls/door of the courts.
-
In terms of breaks between games or simply ‘taking a breather’, please remain on court to do so, unless you need to refill of your water bottle and only then if there is no-one else in the vestibule between the courts.
-
DO NOT
go on court without having booked the same regardless of what day or time. It is also essential that you enter the details of your playing/training partner, if applicable. This is how we, as a Section, shall be able to track and trace if this should prove necessary. If you change playing partner, please remember to update your booking on MyCourts.
-
By going on court, whether to practice, train or play, you are self-certifying that you are free of any COVID 19 symptoms (i.e. no temperature, no cough, no sudden loss of taste and/or smell, no known exposure to (anyone with) COVID 19 and no member of your household is self-isolating due to exposure.
Important points to remember:-
-
The clubhouse, changing room and showers remain closed.
-
You can access the toilets from the rear entrances into the changing rooms with your membership card. Note - it is still a ‘one in, one out’ policy.
-
It is mandatory for all those persons under 19 playing squash or racketball to wear safety goggles – no exceptions. This is an England Squash rule which is adopted by WBC.
-
If, when you have finished playing, there is no-one else waiting to come on court, please irrespective of what time of day it is, please ensure that the court lights are turned off and the flood gate closed and ‘bolted’ shut.
-
The bar is open 5pm to 9pm. Note the bar now opens at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon. As at the time of writing it is bottled and canned drinks only plus the usual snacks. Contactless payment only. The first stage of opening has been outside only, until we have full safety measures in place in the Clubhouse. During this period, the bar staff will take the orders outside. All social distancing and hygiene measures are required at all times.
-
When using the bar, members will be asked to show their membership card or give their name/membership number to assist with track and trace.
-
There is no access to the Club for pedestrians via the drive off Mill Street.
-
The car park is open Monday to Saturday - 9am to 9pm. Sunday - 9.30am to 9 pm, with the possible exception of closing earlier, if there are no members playing sport on a Sunday evening.
-
Use of barbeques, table tennis and other general club facilities is not permitted.
Please note that this update note has been sent as a “service contract” message and thus it will have over-ridden any setting you may have put in place on MyCourt. Rest assured this is not something that we have done lightly but has been actioned to ensure that this message reaches all Section members.
Finally, nobody wants to be the ‘fun police’ but it is important that, if you see people not observing the rules, they are challenged in a polite manner. If this is not something you are comfortable doing then please ensure the matter is reported to me at squash@warwickboatclub.co.uk or by giving me a call/text on 07734 456 050.
As always, if anyone has any queries or concerns, feel free to contact me, otherwise, enjoy your squash & racketball
