WBC - Squash & Racketball from 25th July 2020

Dear Squash & Racketball Members,

As you may have seen in the latest Government briefing on 9th July 2020, indoor sports have been given the go ahead to recommence with effect from 25th July 2020. In terms of squash and racketball, this date has been endorsed by our sporting governing body, England Squash in their statement dated 14th July 2020.

What will be permitted:-

Solo practise.

Games between members of a household members or support bubble

“Sides” – between two players from difference households (not in a support bubble) to play on court at the same time:-

  • Only two players permitted
  • The aim is to hit a winner or force an error from your opponent as in regular squash/racketball.
  • Only one player serves / touches the ball with their hand during the match.
  • Both players must keep to their side of the court throughout each rally, using the full length of the court whilst maintaining safe social distancing throughout.
  • If a player crosses into the other side of the court, they immediately forfeit the rally.
  • If there is a danger of players breaching a safe social distance, they much call a let and replay the rally.
  • Once the rally is complete, players switch sides of the court (maintaining social distancing) and the server restarts play.

“Coach-led activities”. Up to 5 players from difference households can be coached in the same session so long as social distancing requirements are maintained at all times, including when on court.

  • Coaches must have an England Squash qualification
  • Maximum of 2 players per court.

When can I play:-

The courts are available to book as usual on MyCourts (subject to you having credit on your account). You will see that we have staggered the court booking times by 20 mins to avoid two sets of players turning up / leaving at the same time.

The Rules:-

  • Turn up ready to play; play and leave (unless you are having a drink in the bar area afterwards – see details below).
  • If someone is playing on the court you have booked, make your presence known, and then wait outside until they have left the squash court block. If it is raining (and only if it is raining), you may wait on the viewing gallery.
  • Sanitiser dispensers have been located by the external door into the squash courts and in-between the squash courts. Please ensure you use them on the way in and on the way out of the block and courts.
  • No spectators.
  • Do not use or remove any of the items/equipment from the large plastic buckets.
  • Bring your own water bottle. The water machine is still in place, but the paper cups have been removed.
  • Please bring a hand towel; it would be of great help if we could all refrain from wiping our hands on the walls/door of the courts.
  • In terms of breaks between games or simply ‘taking a breather’, please remain on court to do so, unless you need to refill of your water bottle and only then if there is no-one else in the vestibule between the courts.
  • DO NOT go on court without having booked the same regardless of what day or time. It is also essential that you enter the details of your playing/training partner, if applicable. This is how we, as a Section, shall be able to track and trace if necessary.
  • By going on court, whether to practice, train or play, you are self-certifying that you are free of any COVID 19 symptoms (i.e. no temperature, no cough, no sudden loss of taste and/or smell, no known exposure to (anyone with) COVID 19 and no member of your family is self-isolating due to exposure.

Important points to remember:-

  • The clubhouse, changing room and showers remain closed.
  • You can access the toilets from the rear entrances into the changing rooms with your membership card. Note - it is still a ‘one in, one out’ policy.
  • It is mandatory for all those persons under 19 playing squash or racketball to wear safety goggles – no exceptions. This is an England Squash rule which is adopted by WBC.
  • If, when you have finished playing, there is no-one else waiting to come on court, please ensure that the court lights are turned off and the flood gate closed and ‘bolted’ shut.
  • The bar is open 5pm to 9pm for players only. As at the time of writing it is bottled and canned drinks only plus the usual snacks. Contactless payment only. The first stage of opening has been outside only, until we have full safety measures in place in the Clubhouse. During this period, the bar staff will take the orders outside. All social distancing and hygiene measures are required at all times.
  • When using the bar, members will be asked to show their membership card or give their name/membership number to assist with track and trace.
  • There is no access to the Club for pedestrians via the drive off Mill Street.
  • The car park is open Monday to Saturday - 9am to 9pm. Sunday - 9.30am to 9 pm, with the possible exception of closing earlier, if there are no members playing sport on a Sunday evening.
  • Use of barbeques, table tennis and other general club facilities is not permitted.

I am sure, like me, you are all keen to get back on court. As soon as we are permitted to safely open matters up further, we shall do so. In the meantime, it is of utmost importance that we all comply with the rules above. Should you observe anyone not doing so, please notify either myself or a member of the Squash Committee as soon as you are able.

This message will also be issued on MailChimp, so apologies in advance if you should receive it twice.

If you have any queries upon receipt, please feel free to contact me at squash@warwickboatclub.co.uk

Kind regards,

GRAEME MASCALL

SQUASH CAPTAIN
